Visa and ETA fees in Africa

Short answer

Visa and travel authorisation fees are paid to immigration, online or on arrival 1,6. Kenya's eTA portal says fees start at US$30 1. Kenya electronic travel authorisation

Kenya's eTA portal says the standard fee starts at US$30 and expedited processing costs an extra US$100 1. Normal processing takes about three business days, and the expedited option is processed at once 1. Diplomats do not pay for a standard eTA 1. UK advice updated on 16 October 2026 says travellers must apply online before travel and should apply at least two weeks ahead 3.

Business Daily reported on 21 February 2024 that Kenya exempted citizens of Ethiopia and other countries from the US$30 fee 2. UK advice says that from 5 October 2026 most travellers staying under 12 months must buy Kenyan government travel health insurance with the eTA application 3. The advice does not give its cost 3.

Egypt e-Visa and visa on arrival

Egypt's e-Visa portal lists a fee of US$30 for a single-entry tourist visa and US$65 for multiple entries 5. UK advice updated on 4 August 2026 says tourist e-visas are valid for up to 3 months 6.

The same advice says travellers can buy a physical visa on arrival for US$30, cash only, at approved airport kiosks 6. From 1 August 2026 a digital visa on arrival at Cairo International Airport costs US$36, including a US$6 digital service fee, paid by card 6. The advice says travellers do not need a visa agent, and agents often charge more than US$30 6.

Rwanda and Tanzania

Rwanda's immigration directorate lists free visas for East African Community citizens and for nationals of countries with a visa waiver arrangement 4. Its page lists US$30 for a medical treatment visa and US$50 for a conference visa 4. The page does not show an effective date 4.

Tanzania's visa system says US passport holders cannot get the ordinary visa and need the US$100 multiple entry visa for tourism 7. UK advice updated on 20 October 2026 says a single-entry tourist or business visa is available on arrival at main ports of entry 8. Travellers arriving first in Zanzibar must buy insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation, according to the same advice 8.

Nigeria

UK advice updated on 16 October 2026 says visitors must have a visa, applications go through the online portal before travel, and visa on arrival is no longer available 9. The advice does not state fees 9.
