The e-Visa

Egypt's e-Visa portal issues a tourism visa for single or multiple entries to people whose nationality requires a visa 1. Nationals of the countries listed on the portal can apply 1. The portal lists the single-entry tourism visa at 30$ and the multiple-entry tourism visa at 65$ 1. The fee is paid on the website by credit card 1. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the arrival date 1.

UK advice says getting an e-visa in advance can help prevent delays, and tourist e-visas are valid for up to 3 months 2. The portal page does not say whether fees are refunded 1.

Visa on arrival and the digital visa

UK advice says travellers can buy a physical visa on arrival for 30 US dollars, cash only 2. Visas on arrival are valid for up to 30 days 2. The advice says agents often charge more than the required 30 US dollars 2.

From 1 August 2026, travellers arriving at Cairo International Airport can buy a digital visa on arrival by card only 2. It costs 36 US dollars, including a 6 US dollar digital service fee 2. The UK summary page for Egypt shows the advice was updated on 4 August 2026, with updated entry requirements 3.

UK advice says a visa on arrival is no longer possible at the land borders with Sudan 2. A fine applies if a visa has expired by more than 14 days 2.

Sinai and Taba

Visitors to Sharm El-Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba get a free entry permission stamp on arrival at Sharm El-Sheikh Airport, according to UK advice 2. A visa is needed to travel outside the resorts or to stay more than 15 days 2.

At the Taba land crossing, UK advice lists a border tax of 20 US dollars for travellers staying in Taba and 120 US dollars for travel beyond Taba within Sinai 2. A visa for travel beyond Sinai needs a letter of guarantee from a travel agent costing around 20 US dollars 2. The advice recommends bringing at least 170 US dollars in cash per person 2. It says crossing charges at Taba have risen at short notice since early March 2026 and ATMs at the crossing are unreliable 2.
